Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located in Aoqu District, Jiaoga Township, Markam County, Tibet. It was named by the No. 3 Regional Geological Survey Party of Sichuan Bureau of Geology in 1979. In 1988, Fan Yingnian formally adopted it and renamed the then “Aoqu Group” into the Aoqu Fm.

Lithology and Thickness

Limestone. Light-gray, gray-white and light yellow moderately thick to thick-bedded compact limestone and shell-rich limestone, usually with oolitic textures, partially containing chert nodules and bands. 83.2−587 m thick.

Lower contact

Conformable with the underlying Dongfengling Fm

Upper contact

Disconformable with the overlying Eibana Fm or Lizha Fm

Widely distributed along Qamdo−Markam

Fossils

Dominated by Fusulinids, including: Fusulinella pseudobocki, F. ex. gr. bocki, F. cf. vozhgalensis and Pseudostaffella sp.; also Brachiopods Phricodothyris asiatica, Gomicophoria sp., Echinoconchus elegans, etc.; Corals Calophyllum sp., Paracaruthersella sp., etc
